Deep Dream

This June, Google announced through their research blog that they had developed a computer vision program which uses a "convolutional neural network" to find and enhance patterns in images.
The software's code has been made available to the public.  What does this mean to us in the fractal community?  It means that we too can create dreamlike, surreal or outright hallucinogenic images.

Commonly referred to as Deep Dream or Dreamscape, these images are more and more commonplace in the fractal community.

While it may be true that these images are not necessarily fractals - in the strictest sense - I personally have no problem accepting them into the fractal manipulation galley of our group.  If you think we ought to create a dedicated gallery folder for these works, please comment below.

You do not need to install and run the software yourself.  There are several websites where you may upload your image and see the results within a minute.  At the bottom of this journal are links to that and other resources associated with Deep Dream.

At its simplest, the Deep Dream software acts as an effects filter.  There are several filers, each producing its own style.  With filter names such as Trippy, or Mirage there is no hiding the hallucinogenic nature of the filter's effect.
